Lug-to-lug length describes how far a watch reaches along the wrist, including the lugs that hold the strap. It adds useful information to case diameter, but it is not a universal fit score. Read the dimensions together, then check where the watch rests and where the strap turns downward.
Keep the three measurements separate
NOMOS defines lug-to-lug as the distance between the outer ends of the lugs. This is different from lug width: the gap between a pair of lugs where the strap fits. Confusing the two can turn a strap specification into a misleading idea of watch size.
As a concrete example, the manufacturer lists these dimensions for the genuine NOMOS Tangente, reference 101:
| Measurement | Published value | What it describes |
|---|---|---|
| Case diameter | 35.0 mm | Width of the case |
| Lug-to-lug | 45.0 mm | Length including the lugs |
| Lug width | 18 mm | Strap fitting width |
These are published specifications, not measurements from a sample tested here. They describe different directions and should not be used interchangeably.
Look at the shape as well as the length
A single length does not describe how the lugs curve toward the wrist. Look from the side: do the tips follow your wrist, stand away from it or press against it? Then view the watch from above to see how much of the wrist it covers.
Use a watch you already find comfortable as a reference. Record its dimensions if available, but also note its shape and position. Your wrist circumference is useful context; it does not replace this comparison with the actual watch.
Check where the strap or bracelet bends
Inspect the complete configuration. Does the strap turn down close to the case? Does a rigid bracelet attachment extend outward before the flexible links begin? Observe that reach rather than assuming the case measurement describes the whole assembly.
Adjust the closure comfortably and move your hand. Note rocking, slipping or pressure separately from whether you like the appearance. Our leather strap and steel bracelet guide considers the broader wearing choice.
Use the number to improve the comparison
When researching a watch, ask for the exact reference and configuration, the published lug-to-lug measurement and a useful side view. If a seller supplies a measurement, clarify whether it ends at the lug tips or includes a projecting bracelet attachment. Those are different measurement points.
